Assistant Staff Manager Job DescriptionThe Assistant Manager is responsible for the daily oversight and hands-on management of the back-of-house operations at the cooking school. Key responsibilities include staff management, kitchen and classroom maintenance, and coordination with the Food Sourcing Manager to ensure proper ingredient sourcing. This role ensures that staff operations run smoothly and that classes and kitchen facilities function safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.The Assistant Staff Manager serves as the primary point of contact for staffing, scheduling, employee relations, performance reviews, and follow-ups. They will work closely with the Assistant Facility Manager responsible for facility maintenance, and the Director of Food Sourcing.Job Skills & Requirements
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience managing kitchen staff preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and follow-up skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software.
- Ability to lift/move 10-35 lbs objects.
- Flexible, adaptable, and creative in problem-solving.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for occasional trips to specialty markets.
Responsibilities
- Staff Management: Oversee hiring, scheduling, training, and discipline of kitchen staff.
- Kitchen Oversight: Work with the Assistant Facility Manager to report equipment issues, coordinate repairs, and maintain cleanliness.
- Food & Supplies: Collaborate with the Director of Food Sourcing to ensure proper class preparation.
- Process Improvement: Develop and implement procedures to enhance back-of-house efficiency.
Duties (Including but Not Limited To):Staffing & Scheduling
- Create and manage staff schedules at least three weeks in advance.
- Oversee meal breaks, monitor overtime, and enforce time-tracking policies.
- Approve time-off requests.
Staff Oversight
- Ensure kitchen employees are well-trained and perform according to standards.
- Clearly communicate tasks, assignments, and expectations.
- Foster a positive work environment, boost team morale, and provide constructive feedback.
- Support instructors to ensure they are leading classes effectively and understand all roles.
Kitchen Oversight
- Ensure class and event setups are completed efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and fully operational kitchen and back-of-house areas.
- Manage laundry and dish-cleaning processes.
Schedule & Meetings
- Full-Time: Thursday – Monday
- Meetings: Weekly Operations Meeting & Weekly Personnel Meeting
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $23 – $26
- Parking reimbursement
