Description: Bullis School seeks an Upper School Biology Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community starting in the 2025-26 academic year. Candidates should have experience teaching science to a range of learners and value interdisciplinary thinking to guide students as they develop a deeper understanding of our interconnected world through the study of science. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, contributing to department initiatives, and advising. Additional opportunities to supervise after-school activities are based on need and interest. This is a 10-month position reporting to the Upper School Science Department Chair.The Bullis Upper School Science Department values collaboration and nurtures a culture of continuous growth and collegial support. Teachers keep up to date with current advances in science, teaching resources, pedagogy, and national objectives and have opportunities to collaboratively research and craft differentiated, engaging lessons for students. Science courses are taught in technology-rich laboratory classrooms in the school’s newest building devoted to STEM and Entrepreneurship. Students engage in inquiry-based experimentation, keep records of laboratory work, and are authentically assessed on content as well as laboratory skills. Each year Bullis science teachers incorporate research, experimental design, and STEM projects in which students practice Bullis’ core values while gaining a deeper understanding of the natural world around us. - Responsible for teaching five classes (or four classes and two activities) per academic year
- Participate and collaborate with teachers and other subject area experts on grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
- Use technology to blend learning and engage students in active, experiential, and hands-on learning
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
- Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology
- Design a research, experimental design, and STEM project in which students practice Bullis’ core values
- Utilize laboratory notebooks, lab practica, and authentic assessments to assess student’s content and laboratory skills
- Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
- Develop and deliver highly engaging, innovative lessons in course-aligned teams
- Attend Upper School divisional, science department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
- Committed to staying up to date on current pedagogical practices and field-related trends
- Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate.
- Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standard and provide timely feedback to students
- Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students
- Oversee at least one additional role within the community, such as student advising
- Ability to regularly sit and/or stand for long periods and the ability to lift to 25 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations

Education and ExperienceRequired:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
- Minimum of three years teaching experience in secondary education
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
- Teaching certification is not required
Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated annual salary range of $70,000 to $100,000Benefits include:
